Introduced species remark The provenance or origin of the species is ‘uncertain’ / ‘unknown’
Maeotias inexpectata Ostroumoff, 1896, is now regarded as a synonym of M. marginata. Maeotias inexpectata was originally described from the Black Sea, all other occurrences are considered introductions. Väinölä & Oulasvirta (2001) (see page 402) acknowledge that the species was first found in Holland (in 1762), and only a century later in the Black Sea.  [details]
