Pat Doody January 2021: This is a very comprehensive contribution. I would only add one caveat:
In any attempt to use vegetation to help protect the shoreline, it is wise to rely only on native species. As pointed out, aliens can become highly invasive and cause damage to the inherent nature conservation values of shoreline habitats.
