Notes  Ecology: Described by Bagnall from sea banks at Hart, near Blackhall Rocks, northern England. Apparently not exclusively littoral [details]

Taxonomy: The taxonomic staus of S. horrida I am unclear of. Certainly Edwards, on the basis of material in the Natural History Museum London concludes it is S. vulgaris but he gives Silvestri as the authority not Hansen. [details]
