Type locality Florida Strait, c. 200 m.
According to Mortensen (1933) and Clark, H.L. (1946), O. profundi Lütken & Mortensen, 1899 and O. plana may be synonyms (Rowe & Gates, 1995). According to Rowe & Gates (1995), it is possible that O.plana may prove to be conspecific with O. macrolepidota Marktanner-Turneretscher, 1887. T.D. O'Hara (pers. Comm. to Rowe, F.W.E.) considers that O. macrolepidota can be distinguished from O. profundi in SE Australia. [details]
