Two new species of Serpulidae herein described are amongst the material of polychaetes collected from Xisha Islands, Guangdong Province. Description of the two new species is as follows.
Hydroides xishaensis sp. nov. (Pl. I: 1-9)
Holotype 4.8 mm long by 0.5 mm wide in the region of the thorax. Branchial plume of about 20-24 pinnate filaments. Proximal and distal parts of the operculum, namely the infundibulum and corona respectively, both alike (PI. I:l). Infundibulum with 30 teeth. Corona consisting of 5 long, concave valves. Collar setae of two types. Bayonet-shaped setae with a pair of large conical processes and three small processes at the base of the blade (PI. I:2, 3). Second type of collar setae very slender and covered with very fine hair-like processes (PI. I:4). Thoracic uncini with 7 teeth (Pl. I:6). Abdominal region provided with notopodial uncini somewhat similar to those of the thorax, with a single row of 6 curved teeth (Pl. I:7). Abdominal neurosetae trumpet-shaped (Pl. I:8). Tubes quadrilateral in cross section, the dorsal side being narrower than the attached ventral side. This new species differs from the other species of the genus chiefly in the shape of the operculum as is shown in figure 1.
Hydroides trilobulus sp. nov. (PI. II : 1-9)
Holotype 4 mm long by 0.4 mm wide in the region of the thorax. Branchial plume made up of about 20-26 pinnate filaments. Infundibulum with 26 teeth. Corona with 3 round valves of unequal size (Pl. II:l, 2). Bayonet-shaped setae with a pair of large conical processes at the base of the blade (PI. II: 3). Second type of collar setae hair like (PI. II: 4). Thoracic uncini with 8 teeth, the most anterior one longest (PI. II:7). Abdominal uncini with 5 teeth, the most anterior one largest. Tubes white, trapezium in cross section and thick-walled, with two raised ridges on superior surface. This new species differs from its closely related species mainly in the shape of the coronal spine as is shown in figure 2.
