A new species of Scolelepis (Polychaeta: Spionidae) from Lizard Island, Australia.
Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington
A new species of Spionidae, Scolelepis hutchingsae from Lizard Island, Australia is described. Scolelepis hutchingsae belongs to the Scolelepis species-complex having notosetae on setiger 1, posterior neuropodial lamellae bilobed, and hooded hooks principally or exclusively bidentate. The most distinctive characteristic of this new species is that notopodial hooded hooks begin in the same setiger or at most one setiger after the neuropodial hooded hooks; similar Scolelepis species have notopodial hooded hooks beginning as least 10 and usually 20 or more setigers after the appearance of the neuropodial hooded hooks.
