A new species of a freshwater polychaete, Perinereis gualpensis, is described herein, inhabiting a small lacustrine tributary of the Rio Bío-Bío, near Concepción, near the mouth of the river. An analysis made of the plants and animals among which this animal lives shows them also to be a typical freshwater community.
