Four species of Lepidonotus are recorded from New Zealand, L. polychromus Schmarda, L. jacksoni Kinberg, L. banksi Knox and L. fiordlandica n.sp. L. polychromus and L. jacksoni are redescribed and new distributional records are given. L. fiordlandica n.sp. is described from two specimens obtained in 10 fathoms in Pickersgill Harbour, fiord region of western Southland
