Laonice dayianum sp.n., a new species of the subfamily Spionidae (Polychaeta) from the north-western Atlantic, is described. The basic distinguishing feature of the species is the absence of the occipital tentacle. The southern border of the area of Laonice cirrata (M. Sars, 1851) is Long Island at the Atlantic coast in North America.
