Deep sea Syllidae from the Pacific Ocean collected during cruises with the RV Sonne (Annelida, Polychaeta, Syllidae)
A syudy on collections of Syllidae (Polychaeta) from deep waters of the Pacific Ocean is performed. The material was collected by the RV Sonne cruises in Tasman Sea, off Papua New Guinea, North Fiji Basin, and off Oregon and Alaska (USA), including some stations of hydrothermal vents in the two latter localities and cold seeps off Oregon and Papua New Guinea. A total of 12 species are reported, 2 of them identified only to generic level. Four species are described as new: Syllis sol, Exogone dieteri, Sphaerosyllis(?) ruthae, and Autolytus profundus. The respective holotypes are deposited in the Senckenberg-Museum, Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Two species of syllids are reported from hydrothermal vents, an habitat in which only one species of this family was previously known. Three species are reported from cold seeps.
