Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Lastochkin (1935: 636-637): "Asexual production absent; body flattened dorsoventrally, external segmentation complicated and perfectly distinct; prolobic prostomium; pharyngeal pocket ("Schlundtasche" of German authors) on ventral side of pharynx; ventral and dorsal setal bundles closely set together; ciliated pits, "oil"-drops, and side vessels wanting. Segmentally arranged sticky glands serve as attaching organs." [details]
Etymology From Lastochkin (1935: 636): "The first species must be considered as representative of a new genus, Stephensoniella, which I name in memory of the late Dr. J. Stephenson, one of the greatest authorities on the Oligochaeta." [details]
Homonymy Stephensoniella Lastochkin, 1935 is a junior homonym of Stephensoniella Cernosvitov, 1934 [Annelida Enchytraeidae].
