Etymology Not stated. Perinereis is formed by the name of the genus Nereis Linnaeus, 1758, the type of the family, preceded by the Greek suffix peri-, meaning 'near', 'about', or 'around', and presumably refers to the morphological resemblance between the two genera. [details]
