Etymology Not stated but Marenzeller was interested in the structure of the operculum.(pomatus, with hyaline meaning transparent.) which he describes for Hyalopomatus claparedii. In translation "The wall of the cavity [of the operculum] is formed by the juxtaposition of a large number of prisms, the bases of which form over the entire surface of the operculum a rather elegant pattern of meshes, most of them hexagonal or pentagonal. These prisms are perfectly transparent."  [details]
