Type locality Helgoland, North Sea, Atlantic Ocean. Type locality originally described as ''Amphioxus-Sand von Helgoland'' (Friedrich, 1937: 347). Banse (1969: 2615) added the following: ''The type locality is the ''Amphioxus ground'' near the island of Heligoland. This ground, where dredgings have been made for decades by the Biological Station at Heligoland, is approximately a rectangle with the southwestern corner at 54º15.3'N, 07º55.9'E, and extending 0.4' of latitude to the North, and 1.2' of longitude to the East (Dr W. Gunkel, Biological Station, Heligoland, personal communication). The depth is 19-21 m, with coarse sand.'' [details]
