Etymology Not stated, but evidently H. pseudouncinata was named because it represents one of the taxa previously confounded under H. uncinata, a name of indeterminable identity from its original description (fide Zibrowius 1971:709) [details]

Publication date Hydroides pseudouncinata is not given a full entry of its own or a description in Zibrowius (1968) but it is mentioned four times, one of which is in the key where it is differentiated from H. uncinata (Philippi), and also on p.107 where it is stated to be a "n.n." (nomen novum), one of three entities stemming from Hydroides homoceros sensu Pixell, 1913. This partitioning is not further explained. In his summary he confirms he intended "to introduce a new specific name (Hydroides pseudouncinata n.n..)". Later Zibrowius (1971) separated off subspecies 'africana' and describes nominal subspecies 'pseudouncinata', but the subspecies 'pseudouncinata' dates from the date of the nominal species (Article 47.1), thus 1968 in this case. Zibrowius himself (1971) dates his H. pseudouncinata as "Hydroides pseudouncinata Zibrowius, 1968" [details]
