Taxonomy Kinberg (1858) created Palmyridae, as the Palmyracea, as a family within the Aphroditea and defined it as lacking elytra; paleae on all segments; tubercles and dorsal cirri alternating. However, the family Palmyridae is not recognised today, and the genus on which it is based, Palmyra, contains only P. aurifera at present. [details]

[details]

Validity The molecular work of Wiklund et al (2005) subsequently supported Watson-Russel's (1989) morphological conclusions that Palmyra belonged in Aphroditidae, thus Palmyridae was not valid. [details]
