Diagnosis ''Aparaonis differs from other genera of Paraonidae in that the first segment has setae; branchiae number only 3 pairs and are present on segments 2-4; setae are of one kind — all are simple, distally pointed and smooth along their free lengths'' (Hartman, 1965: 135). [details]
Editor's comment The genus Aparaonis Hartman, 1965 does not seem to belong to the family Paraonidae. It seems to be closer to the family Cirratulidae. [details]
Etymology The generic name is composed by the Latin prefix a-, meaning 'away from', followed by the nominal genus of the family, Paraonis Grube, 1873, and presumably refers to the unique features of the genus that separate it from the other known members of the family. [details]
