Diagnosis Emended diagnosis by Ranauro et al. (2020: 4): "Body long and slender with numerous segments, easily broken. Prostomium with distinctive thick, tri-lobed cuticle on anterior margin; median antenna present or absent; ciliated bands, terminal sensory organ and cheek organs all absent; curved nuchal organs on posterior margin of prostomium, often fused to each other, extending across dorsum. Three prebranchial segments present; branchiae restricted to few segments. Neuropodia without podial lobes; notopodial lobes may be present on posterior body notopodia. Chaetae include slender notopodial capillaries, curved modifed spines on postbranchial neuropodia, of which at least 1–2 per fascicle with long arista. Pygidium with three digitiform anal cirri." [details]

Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Strelzov (1973), taken from the English translation (Strelzov, 1979): ''Width of body up to 0.25 mm. Unpaired prostomial antenna absent. Terminal sensory organ and cheek organs absent. Distal part of prostomium is divided by notches into several lobes. Ciliated bands absent on prostomium and anterior segments. Nuchal organs in front of rudimentary buccal segment. Prebranchial segments 3. Branchiae short, on small number of segments. Dorsal and ventral podial lobes absent. Only slender capillary setae in dorsal parapodial rami. Enlarged modified setae in ventral postbranchial parapodia. Shape of anal segment not known. Found in considerable depths.'' [details]
