Etymology Not stated. However, 'oligo' is few and 'bregma' is forehead. Assuming 'bregma' is included simply to link the genus to 'Scalibregma', the first described genus in the family, the authors were thus noting few of something in this genus, but it is not obvious what feature they are remarking on. Scalibregma is neuter so Oligobregma is neuter also, but contrarily the authors created or maintained feminine species-group endings for the species they newly included in the genus. [details]

[details]

Grammatical gender Neuter. Adjectival Oligobregma species-group names should be neuter, but authors of at least eight names have not realized this and instead used feminine species-group names. [details]
