Rafinesque's Mitraria name (p. 145) is apparently a substitute or alternative-spelling name, established without diagnosis or included species, for Mitra Lamarck, 1798. Thus it is an incorrect subsequent spelling and not available. Mitraria Müller, 1851 is a senior homonym to Mitraria Bolivar 1887 (Orthoptera) Ann. Soc. ent. Belgique, 31, 194, 253. Mitraria Bolivar has been replaced by either Mitritettix or Miriatra, with both names published in 1906. It appears no-one has synonymised the Mitraria larval species of Häcker to an adult form. Wilson (1932) does not resolve Häcker's species, but indicates Myriochele may also be a relevant genus as well as Owenia. Hartman catalogue refers Mitraria to Owenia, but she does not assign Häcker's species to Owenia. [details] Validity An analysis of the availability of Mitraria as a genus name follows. Müller (1851: 468) names only a genus, Mitraria, and not a species, using the following words, "Unter diesen ist mir ein mit Borsten versehenes Thier schon seit lange merkwürdig gewesen, weil es nachweisbar die Larve eines Borstenwurms nicht sein kann" [Among these is one bristled animal has long been strange to me because it is demonstrably not the larva of a bristle worm] "Es mag vorläufig Mitraria heifsen." [It may be called Mitraria for the time being]. Müller then provides nearly two pages of description (p.469-470), but no figures. Although no species is named, his presentation seems to satisfy the relevant Code 'requirements' articles 11 and 12, and thus Mitraria is available as a genus name from 1851 (no longer valid but a valid name at the time), although figures were not published until 1854 (Müller's 1854 figures are excellent), and Mitraria species were not named until much later by Häcker (also as Haecker), 1898.
