Diagnosis After Barnich, Orensanz & Fiege (2012): Body flattened dorsoventrally, elongate, with about 45 segments. Elytra 20–24 pairs on segments 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 28, 30, 31, and on every 2nd or 3rd more posteriorly. Prostomium with three antennae; lateral antennae inserted terminally. "The main distinguishing characters of the genera Halosdyna Kinberg, 1856 and Halosydnella Hartman, 1938 are the number of segments and elytra respectively. Adult specimens of Halosydna have only up to 36 segments and 18 pairs of elytra, while those of Halosydnella are characterized by 45 segments and 20–24 pairs of elytra."
