Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Blake (2000: 63): ''Prostomium short, conical; eyes absent. Thorax with achaetous peristomium, 12 setigers; neurosetae present on setiger 1. Noto- and neurosetae of setigers 1-10 with capillaries only, setigers 11-12 hooded hooks in noto- and neuropodia; abdominal setigers with hooded hooks. Branchiae present. Pygidium without appendages.'' [details]
Etymology Not stated. The generic name is composed by the Greek prefix dodeca-, meaning 'twelve', and the Greek root mastus, commonly used to form generic names in the family Capitellidae, and presumably refers to the presence of 12 thoracic chaetigers in the genus. [details]
