Editor's comment Chloeia australis seems very likely to be a junior name to C. inermis Quatrefages 1866. Kudenov does not mention it. [details]
Etymology author: Chloeia australis " derives from the Latin prefix "austr-," meaning southern, and refers to the southern distribution of this species." [details]
Synonymy Editor G. Read noted on 2012-11-15 that Chloeia australis Kudenov 1993 seemed very likely to be a junior synonym to C. inermis Quatrefages 1866. Eventually Salazar-Vallejo (2023) examined types of both and placed Chloeia australis as a synonym of Chloeia inermis. [details]
Type locality Campbell Plateau, just east of Antipodes Islands, New Zealand, Eltanin Station 1850, 103 m, holotype (USNM 139108), -49.6667, 178.8833. Paratypes 84-103 m from Chatham Island and Chatham Rise. Geolocation from the station table in Kudenov.
