Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet platyproctus is composed by the prefix of Greek origin platy-, meaning 'flat', and the New Latin noun of Greek origin proctus, meaning 'anus', and presumably refers to the posterior end of the species, described as having an "oval, slanting anal plate [...] composed of about 10 posterior setigerous segments" (Pillai, 1961: 28). Habitat Brackish water (11.0-19.0 p.p.t.) at shallow depths (1-4 fathoms; 1.8-7.3 m), in fine black mud in oyster beds. [details]
