Etymology "The specific name tesselatus is derived from the latin meaning inlaid with small square stones or mosaic, and refers to the epidermal pattern on the anterior dorsum" (Hutchings & Glasby, 1986: 345). [details]
Habitat Sediment ranging from muddy sand to coarse sand, at shelf dephs. Also from exposed and sheltered rocky shores underneath rocks and associated with algal mats. [details]
Type locality Western Port Bay, Victoria, Australia (-38.3388°, 145.238°). [details]
