Etymology The specific epithet pilikia is a Hawaiian word meaning 'trouble', and refers to the difficulties undergone in order to identify the species. [details]
Habitat Silt and sand with coral rubble, coral rock, and coral settlement blocks, at shallow water. According to Ward (1981: 724), ''The species is a bioeroder of coral rock.'' [details]
Type locality Pacific Ocean, Hawaii, Oahu Island, Kaneohe Bay, Coconut Island, windward reef flat (21º26'28''N, 157º47'22''W), 2 m, boring in 4 months exposed coral settlement blocks. [details]
