Etymology The specific epithet pectinans, Latin word for 'combing', seems to make reference to the shape of the composed chaetae, with the cutting edges of the short blades with spines that somehow resemble a comb. [details]
Habitat Amongst exposed Posidonia, Halophila, and coralline algae, intertidal to shallow water. [details]
Type locality Australia, Western Australia, Dunsborough (geocoordinates not provided, estimated with gazetteer to be approximately lat. -33.61º, long. 115.11º). [details]
Type material According to Nygren (2004), the holotype ZMH P-17401 was lost, but the paratype ZMH P-17402, an incomplete male stolon, still exists. [details]
