Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet orientalis is a Latin adjective meaning 'of the east', and presumably refers to the geographic location of the type locality and known distribution of the species, around India.  [details]

Habitat Arabian Sea: very fine gray-green mud, between 110-113 m. Bay of Bengal: gray mud with little sand, and brown mud, at shelf depths.  [details]

Morphology According to Hartman (1976: 217) the specimens from the Bay of Bengal agree with the type specimen from the Arabian Sea in all details except in that they are smaller, and were considered as being probably juveniles. They were also collected at shallower depths than the type specimen.  [details]
