Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet magna (masculine: magnus) is a Latin adjective meaning 'large', 'big' or 'great', and presumably refers to the big size of the species, stated to be ''characterized by a very large number of setigers, 41, compared with the other species [of the genus]'' (Fauchald & Hancock, 1981: 38).
