Etymology Not stated by the author. The specific epithet ramosa is a Latin adjective meaning 'branched', and refers to the ramous appendages present in the parapodia of the epitokous region of the heteronereid type specimens: "A Ceratonereis-species (Heteronereis-form) differing from the species of this subgenus hitherto described [...] by the peculiar branched appendages at the lobes of the epitocous parapodia" (Horst, 1919: 62).
