Etymology The specific epithet derives from the combination of two Aboriginal words, goora, which means, amongst others, long, and puranga, which means hairs, in reference to the long hairs or spines on shafts of compound chaetae. [details]

Type locality Australia, Queensland, Halifax Bay, north of Townsville (19º09'S, 146º37'E). [details]
