Authority As Amaral & Nonato are believed to have reproduced the full description and figures of Temperini without modification, the authorship is Temperini in Amaral & Nonato, 1994. If this is not correct then the authorship reverts to Amaral & Nonato, 1994. The thesis is apparently not available online to enable comparison of the two texts. [details] Validity The name Paramphinome besnardi is stated to originate in an unpublished thesis by M. T. Temperini (1981), and is mentioned also in an unpublished thesis by Lana (1984). Amaral & Nonato (1994:381) describe and figure the animal (giving authorship to Temperini). Barroso & Paiva (2008:745) commented on the status as follows: "A new species of Paramphinome from the Brazilian continental shelf was noticed in a MSc thesis (Temperini, 1981); it was never formally published, although having been recorded in several later studies (Paiva, 1993; Amaral & Nonato, 1994; Brasil & Silva, 2000)." However, under the less strict ICZN code requirements applying prior to 1999, it appears that Amaral & Nonato have validly published the name in their 1994 article, by reproducing the Temperini description, although it is not indicated as a new taxon.
