Etymology The specific epithet multipapillatus refers to the presence of numerous stomach papillae, which clearly separates the species from other members of the genus. [details]
Habitat On fine sand and muddy sand located between 9-54 m; temperature: 16.8 to 30.3ºC; salinity: 34.2 to 36 psu; 3 to 5.4 ml/L dissolved oxygen, and 1.9 to 5.3% organic carbon. [details]
Type locality NE Gulf of California, Mexico, Tepoca Cape (30º12.4'N, 112º47.2'W). [details]
