Description The encrusting sponge Hymedesmia (Stylopus) methanophila sp. nov. and the branching sponge Iophon methanophila sp. nov. colonize asphalt seeps at Campeche Knolls. a Geographic location of Campeche Knolls and the sponge collection sites, Chapopote and Mictlan. b MARUM-QUEST ROV image of H. (S.) methanophila and I. methanophila at Chapopote. Galatheid crabs graze on the sponges.
