Status The variety was described by Topsent from 4 miles SW of Boavista, Cape Verde Islands Archipelago, Prince Albert 1er cruises Stat. 1203, 15.9°N 22.9125°W, depth 91 m (holotype a fragmented specimen in MOM, brownish in alcohol, slide MNHN DT 1131). It differs from the typical variety described by Carter (1882a: 285, pl. XI fig.2 from Puerto Caballo, Venezuela, 10.479°N 63.0°W, depth not given, lectotype LIVM Sp. 64, cf. Rützler et al. 2007: 1492) and specimens from other Caribbean localities in having the structural styles smooth, lacking any spination. Hofman & Van Soest (1995: 100) and Rützler et al. (2007: 1502) discussed the present variety but misspelled the name as L. i. var. paucispinata (not: L. paucispinata (Ridley & Dendy, 1886 as Myxilla) and L. i. var. paucispina (sic), respectively. The present variety is here proposed to be a valid species to be named Lissodendoryx (Lissodendoryx) paucispinosa Topsent, 1928 close to L. (L.) isodictyalis, differing from similar Lissodendoryx species with spined styles, L. spinulosa Rützler et al., 2007: 1499 from North Carolina and L. paucispinata (Ridley & Dendy, 1886: 471) from New Guinea in having only a single category of chela and sigma microscleres. [details]
