From editor or global species database
Validity Zea (1987: 114) re-examined the type material of Strongylophora rampa and concluded that it is a junior synonym of Xestosponga muta. However, Lehnert & Van Soest, 1996, and Rützler et al. 2014 retained rampa as a valid species, similar to X.muta but with a predominance of strongyle spicules. Further research is necessary.
