Type locality: Bajo Banderas, Gulf of Chiriqui, Panama, 10-35 m [details]Specimen Specimens from Ecuador formerly identified as Aplysina ecuatorensis Desqueyroux-Faundez & van Soest, 1997 (ZMA Por. 11262, 14900) are assigned to this species, because they were never described and thus the name is a nomen nudum.
