Identification Wiedenmayer (1977) erroneously assigned Prianos tierneyi De Laubenfels, 1953 to Xestospongia tierneyi. Subsequent research by Rützler (2002) established that Wiedenmayer's material did not conform to De Laubenfels' species, but to Cervicornia cuspidifera (Lamarck). [details]
