The Amphipods species list is currently being confronted to other relevant resources (viz. ERMS), to ensure the highest data quality standards. A new Taxonomy of Amphipods has been devised by Antarctic specialists, and has been proposed to other amphipodologists. As soon as this process is finished, the complete list (800+ species) will be available online, together with a literature-based distribution dataset.

The amphipod species list was compiled by Claude De Broyer and Henri Robert (Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, Brussels). It includes all benthic, benthopelagic and pelagic species of gammaridean and corophiidean amphipods found in the Southern Ocean sensu stricto, i.e. south to the Antarctic Polar Front. It has been extracted from the Ant’Phipoda Database (RBINS, Brussels) which includes extensive information on Antarctic and sub-Antarctic amphipods. The species list has been databased by SCAR-MarBIN, using a template which will be later freely distributed to other scientists willing to setup their own database.
