Authority Bowerbank (1862a:780) cites the binomen Halichondria lingua for a sponge bearing anisochelae in rosettes. As the brief reference to these anisochelae and their organization in rosettes (illustrated) does not render it mandatory he had Mycale (Mycale) lingua at hands, it is preferred to maintain the current authority of Bowerbank (1866) for the species, as did Lundbeck (1905), Topsent (1924), and others, as in this publication a much more detailed account of the species morphology is presented.
