Etymology The generic name is masculine, derived from the Latin fissura = fissure, split. This refers to the split between the two sternal plates of the second trunk segment. The suffix is based on the Greek deres = neck which is commonly used in the generic names of the subgroup Cyclorhaga within Kinorhyncha. [details]
