Editor's comment For a generally similar species of this subgenus, a 'new' genus name was erected for species M. boricua Khaki et al. 2026 (living symbiotically with a Plakortis species), which is morphologically similar to Haliclona (Flagellia) on account of its distinct flagelliform sigmas. The authors discussed the similarity, but for not entirely clear reasons - presumably molecularly inspired - decided that a separate 'new' genus name was warranted. Please note, that the result is that next to 11 species of Haliclona (Flagellia) there is one additional species in a 'parallel' genus Metilla[details]
