Status Here is how Knight-Jones et al (2017: 202) describe the history of Pseudopotamilla reniformis in their introduction: "There seems to be no type material of P. reniformis (described by Müller, 1771, as die nieren-formige Amphitrite from Iceland), but one of his figures shows a spreading radiolar crown with a kidney shape, when viewed from above. Bruguiére (1789: 57, pl. 58, Figs. 19–20) re-described and reproduced Müller’s figures and was the first to give the Latin binomial Amphitrite reniformis. Leuckart (1849) put the species into Sabella and Malmgren (1867) transferred it to his new genus Potamilla. Lastly, Bush (1905) amended Potamilla raising the new genus Pseudopotamilla with P. reniformis as type." Note that they treat Leuckart's Sabella reniformis as a usage of Bruguière's name. However, Leuckart was not the first to use the combination Sabella reniformis. Johnston's 1846 index page 448 has a listing for Sabella reniformis [details]Unreviewed
