The four species thought of, until now, as belonging to the genus Haliporus have been reexamined. A detailed diagnosis of the genus is published and three species only, H. curvirostris Bate, 1881, H. thetis Faxon, 1893 and H. taprobanensis Alcock et Anderson, 1899, are maintained in this genus. The species for which Tirmizi (1960) has created the genus Gordonella, G. polyarthra, is thought to be synonymous with Haliporus villosus Alcock and Anderson, 1894. The genus Gordonella, partly founded upon erroneous observation, is redefined and H. villosus is considered as belonging to it as well as two new species, G. kensleyi and G. paravillosa.
