Classification Shilov et al. (2025) using 18S rRNA sequences proposed to reassign the genus Parahigginsia to order Suberitida and tentatively to family Halichondriidae. Previously, Alvarez & Hooper (2002), Van Soest et al. (2014), Morrow & Cardenas (2015), Morrow et al. (2019) maintained the genus in Axinellida, although assigned to different families, but these assignments lack molecular support. Following Shilov et al.'s proposal to reassign the present genus to Suberitida is postponed until more (molecular) support has been obtained and family allocation can be made. [details]
