The long, banded and pointed spine comes from the margin, the two shorter ones with the widened ends are from the oral side (Philippines). c. Dark, strongly spindle-shaped spine with coarse thorns at the lower part of the shaft (lle de la RĂ©union). d. Two spindle-shaped spines with conspicuous thorns at the upper side, the underside has only granules (Japan). e. Two dark spines, only slightly tapering distally and with few, small thorns (Philippines).
