Description Small to mediumsized species (15–33 μm long, 14–32 μm wide). Cells dorso-ventrally flattened (7–12 μm thick). Epicone sharply to broadly conical. Hypocone bilobed and nearly symmetrical. Cingulum equatorial to slightly premedian, displaced 18–27% of the cell length. Sulcal intrusion onto the epicone. Chloroplasts elongated and yellowish-brownNucleus spherical, variable in location but predominantly in the left hypocone. Very long apical groove extending ventrally beyond the cingulum-sulcus junction, that distinguishes it from all the other closely related species. Dorsally it extends over 1/4 or less of the epicone only (Chang and Ryan, 2004). [details] Distribution Presently known from New Zealand only
