Authority According to McIntosh (1922: 165) the species (McIntosh does not give a name) "was first described by H. Martin Kähler (1754) as a polyp which perforated stones, though Linnaeus subsequently placed it under the terebellids". This was pre-Linnaean nomenclature biology. The publication details for Kähler's work are abbreviated in McIntosh, and elsewhere, and not readily interpreted, but the work appears to be "Kählers, Martin. (1754). Etymology Terebella lapidaria is named (with feminine suffix) from the adjective lapidarius -a -um, meaning belonging to stones. [details]
