Classification Meyer (2004) studied the DNA (16S and COI) sequences of Naria irrorata and asserted that it was poorly supported as sister to a strongly supported clade including Erosara albuginosa and E. poraria. Despite the poor support, Meyer treated irrorata in the genus Erosaria. He also treated Naria ostergaardi, which has not been studied molecularly, in Erosaria. If both species, the only two species traditionally treated in the genus Naria broderip, 1837, indeed belong in the genus Erosaria Troschel, 1863, then it would mean that Erosaria is synonym with Naria; Naria thus would have priority. However, it is suggested that, until ostergaardi is sampled or more data is available to confirm the phylogenetic position of irrorata, the two genera be kept separate to avoid having to reclassify all species currently in the genus Erosaria. [details]
