Description Colour in life: disc colour bluish with dark blue spots, spotted radial shields, ventrally lighter blue with dark spots (Sloan et al., 1979. Arms banded in grey and pale blue. Description: Arm length to 80 cm (about 20 times disc diameter), disc diameter 1-4 cm. Disc scales covered by thorny stumps. Radial shields with rugose granule-like stumps. Up to ten thorny arm spines, lowest one comb-like.
Habitat: lower eulittoral, sublittoral, under coral boulders or in burrow or a crevice.
Also distributed in Maldive area, Ceylon, Bay of Bengal , East Indies, north Australia, Philippine, China, south Japan and South Pacific Is. (Clark & Rowe, 1971); Lakshadweep (India) in Sastry (1991); Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
